Gretsch BST-1000 Beast 1979 with case

Gretsch BST-1000 Beast 1979 with case

Ooh, the Beast... This is an exciting Gretsch guitar. It's still well under the radar of collectors - which means musicians that want to play it can pick it up for a great price. I think it's rather pretty and has a lot of character. It comes in its original case, including warranty card and q.c. check card.

This all American made guitar has a mahogany body and maple neck with a shorter 24" scale and a flat fretboard radius. Since fretboards normally are radiused (unless we're talking about your classical guitar), the Beast's flatness is quite weird at first. It's a fast and smooth playing guitar though, especially when playing finger style. Good acoustic tone from the guitar, with loads of sustain.

The tone from the two humbuckers is excellent and sits somewhere between an SG and a Strat (not surprising giving the construction). The humbuckers are unpotted and quite microphonic - depending on how you'd use it, that's an advantage or something to fix. I think they sound great.

Quite a flexible guitar - it's easy to play, sounds great, has a cool vintage vibe and it's nice and light. It will happily fit in most music genres.

Condition: good, overall light play wear but heavier buckle rash on the back

Modifications: an extra volume pot has been added. To do this, a new hole was drilled to move the pickup switch

Repairs: none

Includes: Original hard case with original warranty card and quality check card.
